BBW, Silkie Carlo and Charlie Veitch
I explored BBW (Big Brother Watch) and its’ connections in another article: “Big Brother Watch: another front organisation?”, but I want to focus here on Silkie Carlo before she became the BBW Director.
Here’s some info about Silkie Carlo that wasn’t – in 2023 – on her personal website nor in her Wikipedia entry, which in the latter case I found odd as it said nothing about her eventful youth and university years.
Long before joining BBW, a young 18-year-old Carlo gained fame as a contestant on the British TV (Channel 4) reality show “Shipwrecked”, set on some Pacific islands and aimed at teenage viewers. Here’s a brief 2-minute excerpt of Carlo answering questions about her colleagues whilst in the sea and applying suntan lotion:

From the Pacific Ocean, Carlo went to university at Cambridge as an undergraduate. A boyfriend and ally of Carlo in Cambridge (but not a student) was the controversial public protester and conspiracy researcher CHARLIE VEITCH who would famously make a U-turn by publicly (most noticeably on the BBC) renouncing conspiracy theories, thereby attracting the ire of the conspiracy theory community, including David Icke and Alex Jones. I suspect – like many – that Veitch was an undercover agent sent in to undermine the conspiracy community. The more I see and hear of Veitch, the more I believe that he (and his puppet masters) wanted conspiracy researchers to spot his fake persona and to spot his lies. They wanted us to get angry with him, to make accusations and even death threats.
I have yet to find out when and how Veitch and Carlo first met, which I find unusual. Answers on a postcard please.
In the same year that Carlo went to Cambridge, 2009, Veitch was working for a bank in London (HBOS) in wealth management, he said, though in an article in “Vice” magazine in 2013 it says that he worked “…for the Rothschild family.” More of the VICE journalist ALEX MILLER later. Veitch himself said that he had worked for a short time in 2007 as a trainee at a Rothschild bank: ST JAMES PLACE (Wealth Management) and was a customer with them (2007-2008).
Here is his own video telling us so, but in the context of a satirical and knowingly absurd expose of himself, such as linking himself to the 9/11 terror attack:

There are some links between HBOS and the famous Jewish banking Rothschild family. Firstly, HBOS had majority ownership of the bank co-created by JACOB ROTHSCHILD: St. James’s Place (aka J. Rothschild Assurance). Secondly, in 2002, a HBOS subsidiary (Insight Investments) purchased a N.M. Rothschild subsidiary: ROTHSCHILD ASSET MANAGEMENT.
Veitch appeared twice on TV on the BBC, the first time in 2009 (April) in an outdoors live interview in London in which he (then little known) claimed to be a key eyewitness to an event that had resulted in the death of a man at a public protest. How did Veitch persuade the BBC interviewer that he was a credible witness? A few weeks after the BBC interview, Veitch lost his job due to the credit crunch, so he claimed, but it could have been linked to that interview, from a timing perspective. The following month (May 2009), Veitch was interviewed for the first time by the famous conspiracy researcher ALEX JONES on his “Infowars” show, but not because of the BBC interview, apparently, instead it was because Jones said that he had seen Veitch’s video of his confrontation with security personnel outside the American Embassy in London. Veitch directed Jones and his audience to his YouTube video channel, “Faded Glory Times”, which was “…dedicated to… confronting the authority state which they’ve created in the United Kingdom…”

Also in May 2009, Veitch met for the first time his short-lived protest partner, DANNY SHINE, who was at a protest in London carrying his trademark “Everything Is OK” placard. They formed THE LOVE POLICE, but it didn’t last long. They went to public places to annoy people – officious police officers and security guards mostly. They hugged passers-by and held up signs saying that ‘Everything is Okay’ and challenged people to question their attitudes to work, money and authority.
Confusingly, Veitch indicated that he had started THE LOVE POLICE (or its’ precursor) alone earlier in January 2009. Shine in August 2009 was publicly starting to doubt conspiracy theories. Shine wrote in his online blog:
“As regards making these videos, at times I feel afraid. I am not even sure there is such a thing as a new World Order. I am not sure how much of these ‘conspiracies’ are accurate. (My therapist said recently that we are all ‘conspiring’ to do things all the time!) I am not sure of very much at all. What I do find is that any belief I cling on to seems to get blown out of the water eventually. But if we assume that there is an evil bunch of people at the top who will stop at nothing in order to gain total control over us, then it makes me wonder how wise it is to do what I do ? Its not as if Charlie and I are going to stop the New World Order !! And they have my details and I am on their Goddamn Database. I know already that I am down as a troublemaker. Alot happened in 2009 for Veitch!
Sometime in either 2009 or 2010, I estimate, Veitch met Silkie Carlo, though I don’t know when or how. They were definitely an item in October 2010 because Veitch filmed her at Cambridge University at its’ ‘Freshers’ Societies fair recruiting for her (and Charlie’s?) conspiracy theory TRUTH MOVEMENT SOCIETY, working in tandem with Veitch’s Love Police. Note that the university obviously didn’t prevent her setting up such an organisation.

Behind Carlo is her “MI7 Recruitment” banner, which I assume was a joke title (or was it?). Note their TMS logo, which is a variation of the glowing eye on top of a truncated pyramid, seen on the one-dollar bill. Their pyramid is upside down with the “Vitruvian Man” in place of the eye. Underneath are the words “Free Your Mind”.
Cambridge University also didn’t appear to be troubled by MI7 inviting the architect and 9/11 conspiracy theorist RICHARD GAGE to speak about 9/11 at Clare College.

Gage’s speech occurred the following year, 2011, just days before Veitch flew to New York with the BBC where he would perform his 9/11 U-turn. Coincidence, of course. I’ll return to that BBC program below.
A few months before flying to New York, Veitch and Carlo got mainstream news coverage in Britain in April 2011 just before the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Anticipating trouble at the wedding, the Police used the section 60 rule to deter anarchists. Veitch was arrested BEFORE the wedding by police for conspiracy to cause a public nuisance and breach of the peace. Even before the arrest, 10 days earlier, he had appeared briefly on mainstream TV in an ITV news story:

“The Guardian” reported of Veitch’s eventual arrest:
“His girlfriend, Silkie Carlo, told the Guardian Veitch was planning to use a megaphone to make “ironic comments” in the square.
“Speaking about the arrest, Carlo, 21, said: “Charlie was arrested around 5pm from our home on suspicion to cause to public nuisance a day before he went anywhere…There were two police officers and they did a brief search of our room. We were happy for them to do that. We had nothing to hide,” said Carlo, who studies politics and psychology at Cambridge University.
“Then they put Charlie in the back of a van and took him off to Parkside police station in Cambridge. He’s since been picked up at 10am and taken by the Met. We don’t yet know where he is,” she said.
“I’m outraged. It’s easy to hide all this behind the beauty and the spectacle and the tiaras of the wedding but when people with opposing political ideas are being rounded up to keep them away from public view, it doesn’t make us any different from China.”

What the mainstream media didn’t report or make clear was that Veitch was also arrested “…on suspicion of aggravated trespass at [the shop] FORTNUM AND MASONS in Picadilly, London which occurred on Saturday 26th March 2011…” Here’s Carlo’s video of his arrest. Carlo tries to reason with the police, to no avail. At the 7-minute mark you can hear her softly crying and sniffing:

A police website forum member wrote cynically of Veitch and his arrest:

“Vice” journalist Alex Miller (mentioned above), a Veitch supporter it would seem, wrote of the arrest:
“Yeah, about an hour after he wrote this blog about how the police were following him and trying to stop him from attending the royal wedding, our good friend Charlie Veitch was arrested by police in his own house. BBW Director Silkie Carlo graduated from Cambridge University in 2012. She posted this fact on Twitter/X 10 years later to which someone responded: “And now you work for an organisation funded by George Soros”. Carlo replied: “Getting funding from OSF [George Soros’ Open Society Foundations] for Big Brother Watch to investigate the birth of citizen scoring in Britain’s welfare system – which is solely what that funding was for – was a great achievement.”

Carlo’s university thesis is intriguing to me as it was not what you would call ‘mainstream’, and yet her university thesis advisers didn’t seem too bothered by it, I assume. It analysed Julian Assange’s Wikileaks, basically arguing that Wikileaks could be positive for society in that it challenged flawed middle-class assumptions about who’s really screwing up civilised society. She wrote:
“In 2012, I completed a thesis titled Shifting the public psyche: Is WikiLeaks reducing system justification? I wanted to measure the psychological impact of unauthorised disclosures in the information age. I was also investigating, for the first time, whether the phenomenon of system justification is a temporal feature of human psychology – specifically, whether it is reversible. This would pertain to the psychological factors necessary for mass social change or revolution.”
In her dissertation (see link below), she acknowledged the help of Julian Assange and Wikileaks:
“Acknowledgements. With many thanks to Dr. Brendan Burchell [Cambridge Professor]; Professor John T. Jost [best known for his work on system justification theory and the psychology of political ideology]; Julian Assange, Sarah Harrison, and the WikiLeaks team; Annie Machon; the participants, and redditors.”

Others acknowledged by Carlo in her dissertation included the then WikiLeaks section editor, SARAH HARRISON, who worked with the WikiLeaks’ legal defence and was described as Julian Assange’s closest adviser. Harrison accompanied NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden on a high-profile flight from Hong Kong to Moscow while he was sought by the United States government. Harrison took an internship at the CIJ (Centre for Investigative Journalism) where she met the CIJ co-founder and Director GAVIN MACFADYEN (also the Wikileaks Director), who recommended her to WikiLeaks. Gavin MacFadyen was an early mentor and defender of WikiLeaks and friend of Julian Assange.

Also acknowledged by Carlo in her thesis was another Cambridge graduate and former MI5 intelligence officer ANNIE MACHON, who had gained fame when she resigned from MI5 in 1996 and joined her boyfriend and even more famous fellow MI5 agent and soon-to-be transvestite ‘son of God’ DAVID SHAYLER (aka DELORES KANE) in revealing a series of alleged crimes committed by MI5. Afterward, they went on the run around Europe for a month, lived in hiding for a year and in exile for two, before returning voluntarily. Machon escaped punishment, but Shayler was imprisoned. Subsequently, she became a media commentator, author, political campaigner, and international public speaker on a wide variety of geopolitical issues. She wrote articles for “The Guardian”.
Personally, I suspect Shayler deliberately undermined his own reputation, just like Veitch and many others, but not David Icke, who was unwittingly manipulated, IMO.
Shayler emerged from prison rather troubled, Machon said, and he harbored a “Messiah complex.” She said of Shayler: “I believe David is a good and honorable man but he has had some form of severe breakdown. I do blame the Government and the intelligence agencies for what he had become.”
Shayler destroyed his reputation when he – seemingly following in David Icke’s footsteps – announced that he was Jesus, the Son of God, and that Zionist bankers were the visible tip of the people who run the world.
David Shayler appeared (in the eyes of some) to trash his reputation even further by announcing that he dressed in woman’s clothes and had a feminine alter ego called DELORES KANE. That name is like the psychic medium DOLORES CANNON, intriguingly. He said that he had been dressing up since 2006 but the press hadn’t picked up on it. Note – back then, mainstream society didn’t treat transvestites with the same ‘respect’ (much of it being fake politically-correct ‘respect’) that it does today, in 2023.
Shayler used cannabis and ‘magic mushrooms’.
Shayler said of Icke: “David has done some enormously important work. I see him as the John the Baptist to my Christ. I have spoken to him on the phone and suggested we meet.”
Veitch interviewed Shayler on video in 2010 and asked if the intelligence agencies had used mind control on him.

Machon spoke at her alma mater, Cambridge, at its’ Union in 2011, and thanked Silkie Carlo “…for setting the whole ball rolling… It was a busy weekend. The Friday evening began with an all-too-brief appearance at the first meeting of a new group, MI7 — can I say that, or is it a state secret? — organised by Silkie and Charlie Veitch of the Love Police.”
Remember that MI7 had begun recruiting earlier in October 2010, at least, so 28th January 2011 could have been the official start date.
Machon continues:
“The next day was taken up with interviews for The Cambridge Student and Varsity student newspapers, Sky 203 Channel, and a photo shoot with QH Photography for a gallery exhibition in London later this year. The Cambridge Student journalists gamely allowed the interview to be film by Sky 203 — not the easiest of scenarios. “Varsity” newspaper did a colourful and intelligent interview — thanks Olivia! — which was rapidly followed on the newspaper website today with this puff piece about MI6. I can only assume that this is merely balanced news reporting, especially as the Master of Pembroke College [Cambridge], Chair of the Trustee Board of the [Cambridge] Union Society, and former head of MI6, Sir Richard Dearlove, will be speaking at the Union in a couple of weeks.….”

Machon was a co-founder (along with Julian Assange and Gavin MacFadyen) and trustee of the Wikileaks-influenced COURAGE FOUNDATION, which supported whistleblowers and journalists by fundraising for their legal defence. Their first recipient was Edward Snowden. Sarah Harrison served as acting director from 2014 until 2017. WikiLeaks itself became a Courage beneficiary – a totally impartial decision, of course!

She was a board member of DiEM25 (Democracy in Europe Movement 2025), a pan-European initiative launched by former Greek finance minister and economist YANIS VAROUFAKIS, which sought to democratize the European Union, supposedly. Yanis supported the idea of UBI/Basic income guarantee.
Avila co-wrote with Sarah Harrison the book “Women, Whistleblowing, Wikileaks: A Conversation”, which covers women who played an active role in WikiLeaks.
Machon was a board director of the WEDF (World Ethical Data Foundation), the only event in the world, they said, that embraces the full range of interrelated issues around the use and future of data.
WEDF – speakers have included: Silkie Carlo, Cory Doctorow (EFF).
WEDF partners included: BBW, Tor Project, UNIDO (UN Industrial Development Organisation).
Machon was European Director of LEAP, a global group of serving and former police officers, lawyers, judges, intelligence officers, prison governors, customs officers and former drug czars.
“LEAP speakers have worked on the front line of the failed “war on drugs” policy, recognise this abject failure, and as a result campaign for an end to drug prohibition…In 2014 LEAP published a Proposed Amendment of the UN Treaties, in which we argue that all drugs should be brought within the orbit of the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (2003). We argue that only full regulation and control of the drug market will end the scourge of the illegal global drug trade. Until this happens at least $320 billion per year profits will continue to benefit only crime cartels and terrorist organisations.”

Before writing about Veitch and his 9/11 U-turn on the BBC, I’m going to look at the VICE journalist Alex Miller, who was Vice’s global head of content and editor-in-chief. He began his career at the British music magazine, NME. Miller was publicly anti-conspiracy theories, as seen in this 2012 Vice article that he wrote:

It wasn’t that the things Charlie said were very surprising, it was all standard anarcho-conspiratorial stuff. But he was starting to look a bit mad. I didn’t want the nice guy I knew to lose his faith and fall more deeply from the society, which, for all its faults, I still—in my sheeplike hive mind—believed to be relatively decent and sane. During his ban from London, Charlie managed to walk the line of legality and make it to Southwark Crown Court. He invited me to join him. We were there for the trial of Muad’Dib, a 7/7 conspiracy theorist. Muad’Dib, Charlie explained to me, is the pseudonym (taken from Dune) of John Hill. Hill’s an old man with a long white beard who lives in a small town in Ireland. He’s best known as the creator of 7/7 Ripple Effect, a film blaming the London terrorist attacks on, of course, not the four vicious assholes I naively blamed, but the government and the complicit British Broadcasting Corporation. “He’s a very spiritual man,” Charlie reassured me as we walked inside.”

Veitch’s conspiracy U-turn was very public, occurring in 2011 in an episode of the BBC TV series “Conspiracy Road Trip”, hosted by the par-for-the-course ‘lefty’ comedian ANDREW MAXWELL who, of course, spread the propaganda that we conspiracy researchers are all mad, bad and dangerous to know. This episode featured the 9/11 terror attacks, but, strangely, the BBC quickly deleted it from their website (BBC iPlayer).
The BBC website said:
“Andrew Maxwell, a comedian, believes in the findings of the official investigation, which claim the responsibility for the attack lies with Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. He thinks the conspiracies theories are unsubstantiated nonsense. So in this film he offers to take five young Brits, who believe some of these conspiracy theories, on a road trip from New York to Washington. They visit Ground Zero where two planes hit the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, home of vast American defence HQ and Shanksville in Pennsylvania where United 93 crashed.”
David Icke, who had earlier praised Veitch and publicized his work, stated that Veitch would “deeply regret what he has done.” Alex Jones (InfoWars), who had also promoted Veitch, claimed in an online video that he had known “all along” that Veitch was a plant acting on behalf of the secret forces supposedly behind the original conspiracy to discredit the “9/11 Truth” movement. There may be some truth in the latter because I saw a video in which a YouTuber claimed that he had spotted Veitch as a conspiracy theory fraud, and had tried to warn the Alex Jones website, but they ignored him.
Veitch spoke about that BBC episode in an interview with the magazine VICE, in 2018, in which he reinforced negative propaganda about conspiracy theories:
Veitch: “The BBC went, “We are impartial, please meet the guy who actually designed the Trade Centre. Here’s the architecture firm, here are the original blueprints.” So I was like, ‘Okay, hold on a second, I get this. Perhaps I’m wrong.’ I’m humble enough to admit that. But the other four people on [Conspiracy Road Trip] were like, “No! They’re in on it! They’re just an FBI front! They’ve just given us fake blueprints!”
VICE: “Just a whole load of confirmation bias.
Veitch: “Absolute confirmation bias. I think why I got into it was very much emotion-based. I got made redundant during the credit crunch – I had a high paying job in finance – and I was looking for a scapegoat. And then, you know, there were Alex Jones videos, and videos about the “Zionist-controlled global finance agenda”, which, in hindsight, oh my god, that sounds like Nazi propaganda. But I fell for it.
“VICE: When you were part of that conspiracy community, how was Bilderberg seen?
“Charlie Veitch: I was always in two minds about it, but when I was in “the cult” – that framework of analysing reality – Bilderberg represented the greatest threat to: a) national sovereignty, b) the masses – because we all believed the globalists’ plan was to depopulate the planet by 80 percent – and c) it was just offensive in every way, because it was a collection of very rich, very privileged white men talking in private, and how dare they.
VICE: “Can you talk a little about the response you got when you came out as no longer a conspiracy theorist?
Veitch: “Well, it was modern day heresy that I committed against the religion and against the preachers, such as Alex Jones and David Icke – and against a religious organisation, heresy is a very big crime. Icke and Jones both released statements saying I was either an agent or extremely evil and a bad man, and paid off by MI6, and then my website got hacked.
Veitch: “The conspiracy take is that America is only a client state of Zionist bankers. This is the old antisemitic world banker conspiracy theory that’s been popular for throughout the 20th century, since the publishing of the false document “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” – a document [purporting to describe a Jewish plan for world domination] which has been exposed to be fake… Again, it’s all very antisemitic: Israel is the “be all and end all of all the world’s problems”, and it’s because they’re Jewish.
Veitch: “The conspiracy world is very, very right-wing – almost far-right, I would say. So the conspiracy view is that “populism” is a globalist-invented term to dismiss public demands or public desire. So populism – the conspiracy crowd would say, “Well, that’s just a put-down word for popular.”
Veitch: “According to the conspiracy mind, there is no such thing as a nuanced or grey area; it’s all: “Jews are evil”, “America follows the Jews”.

In the VICE interview, Veitch seems to me to contradict (a deliberate contradiction?) a previous interview that he gave as to the time and the reason for his embrace of conspiracies:

The credit crunch was in 2008, and he was fired in 2009, but in this “Cracked” article in 2016 he says that his conspiracism began in 2006:

It may be simpler than you think. “It was 2006, and I’d been out clubbing with a friend of mine,” Charlie explained. “We were doing ecstasy, and we were off our heads.” Instead of stumbling back home and watching the hell out of some infomercials like the rest of us, a friend invited him to instead watch “Terrorstorm: A History of Government Sponsored Terror” — in which melted waxwork impersonator Alex Jones alleges that every major terrorist attack in the past several decades was committed by the government in order to rob people of their rights. It’s a rather crazy idea, but that’s the sort of thing that happens when your movie stars George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Hitler.
“After watching Terrorstorm, Charlie hit the streets with his video camera in search of some love from the internet. “By finding conspiracy theories, it was almost like I’d found religion. I’ve always been an outsider, a lone wolf. I wanted someone to accept me. I was emotionally needing a group.”
“That said, Charlie eventually found his line in the sand. He thought that David Icke’s theory that an elite cadre of reptilian aliens rule over the world was utter nonsense. Which is, of course, exactly what the Reptites want you to think.
